What's Inside:

Choosing the right warehouse size is a crucial decision for any business. Whether you’re storing inventory, fulfilling orders, or distributing products, the right space ensures efficiency and scalability. At Tradestars, we provide flexible warehousing that enables you to create the best layout for your business, ensuring you make the most of your space.

Warehouse Sizes

Warehouse sizes can vary greatly, offering different solutions based on business needs and product types. At Tradestars, we offer private studios ranging from 100 sq ft to1000+ sq ft, giving businesses the flexibility to adapt their storage and operational requirements. Our warehouses are flexible, allowing you to customise them to your needs, meaning they work for all kinds of products.

Unlike large industrial warehouses, Tradestars provides a cowarehousing environment designed for businesses that need dedicated private studios within a shared facility. This setup is ideal for e-commerce brands, creative enterprises, and small businesses looking for a practical and adaptable workspace without committing to a vast industrial facility.

What Is The Average Size Of A Warehouse

In the UK, the average warehouse size typically ranges between 10,000 and 50,000 square feet, primarily catering to large-scale logistics and distribution operations. However, many small businesses, startups, and growing brands require more manageable spaces that offer flexibility without excess overhead costs.

For businesses looking for an efficient and adaptable space, Tradestars offers studio sizes between 100 and 1000+ square feet, allowing businesses to scale as needed. Our private studios provide an alternative to traditional warehousing, ensuring businesses have the right space without unnecessary size constraint.

What Size Warehouse Do I Need?

To determine the right warehouse size, consider the following key factors:

  • How do I plan to use the warehouse?
  • What size are my products?
  • How much storage space do I need for products?

How Do You Plan To Use The Warehouse?

Understanding your intended use will help define how much space you require. Think about the key areas needed within your warehouse, such as:

  • Loading Areas – For new products or parts to be put together.
  • Product Storage – Often tall shelved areas for your stock that keeps everything out of the way but accessible.
  • Order Packing – If you are fulfilling orders in the warehouse, you need an area to do this.
  • Product Distribution – Completed and ready to send orders will need a storage area separate from your product storage and order packing.
  • Equipment – Consider if you need any equipment in your warehouse, such as trolleys or forklifts, if you need to store them in your warehouse.
  • Staff Workspaces – Your team may need a desk or workspace within the warehouse for stock management, order updates, etc.
  • Breakout Areas – Depending on your team’s needs, you might want to have a breakout area, such as lounge seating or a dining space, for them to relax in.
  • Movement Gaps – Be aware that you need to be able to access all areas and move between them. Not accounting for space for your staff, trolleys or forklifts to get around will lead to difficulties if you end up with a warehouse that is too small.

If you choose a warehouse in a shared facility, you might be able to get some of these areas outside of your warehouse.

At Tradestars we offer onsite breakout areas, such as a private kitchen and cafe, as well as meeting rooms. This means you can offer to use more space in your warehouse for products or use a smaller warehouse as you don’t need it to have as many areas.

What Size Are Your Products?

One of the most significant factors that can affect the size of the warehouse you need is the size of your products.

Small items like pin badges and jewellery will take up less space than clothes, which will need a lot less space than furniture – especially if you are assembling or packing for assembly.

We recommend calculating the average size of your products, assembled and unassembled.

We recommend also knowing the largest size of your products, assembled and unassembled, so you can ensure you have a large enough area for those items.

Based on your business’s performance, it is then good to be aware of how much stock you are likely to have at one time.

As you explore the various sizes of warehouse, use the calculations to map how much space they will use up.
